Technique

Airbag Familiarization

A methodology for first sessions on an airbag landing: inspect the approach and jump, ride a straight air to learn the feature, then repeat an already familiar movement before experimenting further.

HOW TO DO IT

Airbag familiarization

A training landing environment with facility-specific procedures; it is not proof that an unfamiliar inversion is suitable or risk-free.

Preparation and setting

Facility induction, functioning equipment and a coach-selected task.

Execution / application sequence

  1. Follow the operator's current rules and inspect the permitted line.
  2. Confirm that the bag and landing area are ready and clear.
  3. Begin with the prescribed familiar straight-air task.
  4. Keep the approach repeatable.
  5. Progress to an already familiar movement only when the facility and coach approve.
  6. Reassess rather than using the bag as permission to skip preparation.

Learning and practice

Build familiarity with the facility separately from learning a new axis. Snow transfer requires its own assessment.

Errors, limits and corrections

Copying an old article's setup, pressure or landing posture without operator guidance is unsupported.

Observable checks

Facility requirements and task boundaries remain explicit.

teaching summary — coaching review required

S5 (2017) emphasizes a consistent approach, pop and entry path. It does not establish a universal landing position, bag pressure, permitted equipment or transfer-to-snow readiness — those follow each facility's operating guidance. Airbag practice is kept separate from trampoline practice and snow landing proficiency.
