Term

Alley-Oop

A transition-air rotation directed uphill or against the usual down-feature rotational flow.

GLOSSARY · Freestyle & trick grammar

The movement is described relative to the transition and direction of travel. Wall identity and spin direction are both needed to interpret a named variant. A grounded preparation exercise can use the same term but remains a different task.

Context and distinction

Alley-oop is not another name for air-to-fakie; source conventions for frontside/backside variants must remain explicit.

HOW TO DO IT

Alley-Oop — frontside-wall written example

An uphill-directed aerial rotation in the documented pipe convention. Wall name and actual spin direction are independent fields.

Preparation and setting

Controlled wall airs and an instructor-selected transition; grounded assessment tasks are different exercises.

Execution / application sequence

  1. Identify down-pipe travel and the wall.
  2. The written frontside-wall example approaches on toes and turns backside/uphill.
  3. Coordinate release with the transition rather than excessive pop toward the flatbottom.
  4. Use the source's optional Indy only if the air is independently organized.
  5. Complete the intended return and recover the source's toe-edge landing.

Learning and practice

Learn a low grounded directional task separately; an aerial version needs its own supervised trajectory and landing review.

Errors, limits and corrections

Calling every backward-looking air backside or every180 alley-oop confuses wall, rotation and travel.

Observable checks

Uphill rotation relationship is explicit; other walls and switch versions remain individually unverified.

HOW TO DO IT

Alley-Oop: Quarterpipe Context

Type: trick application. Source: S01. Evidence: original_manual_reviewed. Its quarterpipe example pairs travel left with rotation right, or the reverse. Preserve viewpoint before converting these observations into labels. Do not copy this left/right description into a global clockwise rule.

Preparation and setting

This is an attributed description, partial lesson or analysis page. Related component practice does not validate an advanced target.

Known phases / unresolved execution

  1. Identify the exact source convention, feature and approach stance.
  2. Separate board support, hand support, axis and landing outcome.
  3. Use the preserved attributed material below for known facts.
  4. Keep unknown timing, feature geometry and recovery instructions visibly incomplete.
  5. Obtain a reviewed source-specific pathway before treating this as a reproduction lesson.

Learning and practice

Use the source-specific phases where supplied. For a missing execution pathway, preparation and recognition are related learning only; a complete named tutorial is still required.

Errors, limits and corrections

Do not infer support hand, spin amount or safe feature from the name. Historical definitions and provider titles are not complete coaching instructions.

Observable checks

Known facts, source convention and unresolved execution are separately recorded.

HOW TO DO IT

Alley-Oop: Glossary Boundary

Type: terminology comparison. Source: S02. Evidence: original_glossary_reviewed. WSF describes roughly 180 degrees or more uphill within the halfpipe. This definition concerns the aerial family; it does not invalidate the grounded teaching task named by S03. Import action: attach as a source definition, not a minimum-rotation validator for all drills.
