HOW TO DO IT

Backside 180 — No-jump Preparation

A source-specific introductory backside stance change using turn continuation rather than a distinct aerial half-turn. It builds orientation and edge release for later popped rotations.

Preparation and setting

Controlled toe-side gliding and switch travel on gentle unobstructed terrain.

Execution / application sequence

  1. Start balanced with knees flexed and speed managed.
  2. Use gradual toe-side turning to organize the backside direction.
  3. Lighten the board enough for the stance change without demanding an airborne jump.
  4. Keep the heel edge from hooking while the board moves across travel.
  5. Complete switch alignment and regain vision along the path.
  6. Return to normal travel and stop deliberately.

Learning and practice

Rehearse the direction change in small segments. Add a pop only in the separate second-stage drill after the surface change is controlled.

Errors and corrections

Looking down: retain an outgoing reference. Rigid knees: soften through the change. Heel catch: reduce rotation demand and inspect board inclination.

Observable checks

The stance change is controlled and clearly classified as non-jumping preparation.
