HOW TO DO IT
Backside 180 — Turn-and-pop Drill
The second-stage lesson adds ollie to the initial backside surface change, then progressively moves take-off earlier toward a fully airborne half-turn.
Preparation and setting
G19, small ollie and switch glide.
Execution / application sequence
- Use the gentle toe-side setup from the no-jump drill.
- Flex and prepare tail release.
- Add upward ollie as the board begins the turn.
- Keep the hips over the board during the less visible phase.
- Receive switch contact and recover travel reference.
- Reset before changing departure timing.
Learning and practice
Gradually make take-off earlier rather than adding more rotation force. The source's downward gaze cue is source-specific, not a general park prescription.
Errors and corrections
High rigid setup may produce a catch: restore flex. Board moves sideways beyond support: reduce the turn. Delayed landing vision: regain outgoing gaze.
Observable checks
The learner can distinguish turn-then-pop from later full aerial 180.
