Trick

Backside 50-50

A 50-50 approached with the feature starting behind the rider.

HOW TO DO IT

Backside50-50

A side approach with the feature behind the rider, then lengthwise aligned base contact. Approach side is not backside spin.

Preparation and setting

Straight50-50, modest lateral heel-side hops and a suitable low side-entry feature under instruction.

Execution / application sequence

  1. Rehearse lateral clearance on gentle snow.
  2. Identify feature height, approach and outgoing line.
  3. Pop above the entry without dragging a board end.
  4. Align lengthwise before receiving support.
  5. Keep the base flat and knees flexed.
  6. Leave aligned and absorb..

Learning and practice

Use the source's sideways hop preparation. Exact approach angle and speed are feature-specific, not universal numbers.

Errors, limits and corrections

Low clearance hits the feature. Heel tilt on metal catches: restore flat contact. Body left outside support: reduce lateral gap and rebuild preparation.

Observable checks

Backside approach and aligned support are clear; no spin is inferred.

teaching summary — coaching review required

S4 lesson: develop sideways heel-edge hops on gentle snow before a street-style approach, then align the board along the rail with flat contact. The approach angle is specific to that lesson.

editorial review notes

Approach side is not spin direction.
