Term
Base structure
A surface texture applied to the base as part of tuning.
GLOSSARY · Equipment, setup & maintenance
Base structure is a pattern of fine grooves ground or pressed into the base. It breaks the suction of water under the board, helping it glide, especially in wet snow. Shops choose finer or coarser structures for cold or warm conditions.
Context and distinction
Structure is the texture of the base; wax is what fills and protects it. Both affect glide.
