Term

Board Loading and Rebound

The board's bending and spring response under load, with timing emphasized over simply pushing harder.

GLOSSARY

Loading means bending the board by pressing on it; rebound is the spring back when that pressure is released. The source stresses that good timing of the load and release matters more than pushing harder.

Context and distinction

Loading and rebound describe how the board responds; pop is the rider's active take-off. They work together in ollies and turn transitions.

HOW TO DO IT

Board Loading and Rebound

A board bends under load and can return stored elastic energy as loading changes. The useful result depends on timing, flex and support, not simply pushing harder.

Preparation and setting

Mobile balance and small controlled press/release practice.

Execution / practice sequence

  1. Feel a modest loaded position.
  2. Maintain recoverable support while the board bends.
  3. Release deliberately.
  4. Follow the returning board with adjustable legs.
  5. Recover centre.
  6. Compare another timing with similar movement size.

How to learn / practise

Use an easy stationary or slow task. Describe loading and release separately; do not turn the exercise into a maximum-flex challenge.

Errors and corrections

Trying to create rebound with shoulder throwing: revisit leg support. Release too late: reduce the task and isolate timing. Assuming all boards respond alike: document equipment context.

Observable checks

A controlled load and release are identifiable without an uncontrolled rearward fall.

Attributed teaching commentary; its critique of poorly timed automatic rising/sinking is an argument about timing, not proof that extension-based turns are invalid.
