GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics

AASI treats control of pivot as a board-performance fundamental. Pivot can occur while the board is supported; it is not limited to aerial rotation.

Context and distinction

Heading describes where the board points, while trajectory describes where it travels.

HOW TO DO IT

Board Pivot

Pivot changes the board's heading relative to travel. It is useful in skidded turns and some tricks; excessive pivot can spoil a requested carve.

Preparation and setting

Controlled sideslip, stopping and basic turns.

Execution / practice sequence

  1. Begin a controlled sideslip.
  2. Reduce edge resistance sufficiently for the selected task.
  3. Guide a small heading change with coordinated lower-body rotation.
  4. Regulate edging to control the resulting slide.
  5. Finish with a deliberate stop or return to the planned direction.

How to learn / practise

Use partial turns before complete turns. Compare an intentionally pivoted turn with a low-pivot carved task on familiar terrain.

Errors and corrections

A violent rear-foot kick instead of coordinated steering: reduce turn size and isolate leg guidance. Catching an edge: return to slower edge-release practice.

Observable checks

Heading changes by the intended amount, without accidental spin or uncontrolled acceleration.
