Term
Boot-out
Boot contact with the snow that interferes with the intended edge support or clearance.
GLOSSARY · Equipment, setup & maintenance
When the board is tilted high on edge, boots or bindings that stick out past the edge can hit the snow, levering the edge out and causing a slide or fall. It is most noticeable in deep carves with big feet on a narrow board.
Context and distinction
Boot-out is a setup problem related to overhang, waist width and binding angles; it is not a technique error, though high edge angles reveal it.
