Coaches describe moving the centre of mass forward, back, across or along the board to change how it is loaded. In practice it sits roughly around the hips in an athletic stance and moves as the rider bends, leans or extends.
Context and distinction
Centre of mass is where the body's mass is; base of support is where the body is held up. Balance means keeping the first over the second, or moving it deliberately to start a turn.
