Term
Chatter
Repeated vibration or intermittent loss and recovery of edge contact during riding.
GLOSSARY · Turns & riding control
Chatter is the rattling or bouncing of the board when the edge repeatedly grips and slips, often on hard snow, at high speed, or when the board is overpowered. It reduces control and can lead to a skid or washout.
Context and distinction
Chatter is a symptom, not a single fault. It can come from technique, snow conditions, edge tune or a board that is too soft for the speed.
