Term
Companion rescue
Rescue actions undertaken by members of the affected group; procedural content requires specialist review.
GLOSSARY · Mountain literacy & safety vocabulary
Companion rescue means the people in the group search for and dig out a buried partner themselves, because organised rescue usually arrives too late. It relies on transceiver, probe and shovel skills learned in an avalanche course.
Context and distinction
Knowing the term is not the same as being able to perform a rescue. The procedure is taught and practised in specialist avalanche courses.
