Term
Detuning
Deliberately reducing edge sharpness in selected areas.
GLOSSARY · Equipment, setup & maintenance
Detuning means dulling the edges in chosen places — usually near the nose and tail, or along the edge for jibbing — so they catch less on rails, boxes and when buttering.
Context and distinction
Detuning reduces edge sharpness on purpose; tuning restores it. Over-detuning reduces grip on hard snow.
