Term

Edge angle

The angle of the board relative to the local snow surface, rather than a measure of body lean.

GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics

The more the board is tilted onto an edge, the higher the edge angle and the more the edge can grip and bend the board into a carve. A flat board has an edge angle near zero. Riders create edge angle through inclination, angulation and the flex of ankles and knees.

Context and distinction

Edge angle describes the board, not the body. A rider can lean a lot with little edge angle, or hold a high edge angle with an upright upper body through angulation.
