Term
Effective edge
The manufacturer's defined length of edge relevant to snow contact; measurement conventions may differ.
GLOSSARY · Equipment, setup & maintenance
The effective edge is the part of the steel edge that grips the snow when the board is on edge, roughly between the contact points. A longer effective edge holds better at speed; a shorter one turns and spins more easily.
Context and distinction
Effective edge is shorter than the board's total length. Brands measure it in different ways, so numbers are not always comparable.
