Term
Extension
Straightening a joint, such as the ankle, knee or hip, so the body segments open up.
GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics
In snowboarding, extension raises the body or pushes the board away from it. It is used to pop off a jump, to lighten the board between turns, to push the board through the bottom of a turn, or to recover height after absorbing a bump.
Context and distinction
Extension is the opposite of flexion. Which one a teaching system uses at a given moment — for example during an edge change — is a matter of technique and method, not a fixed rule.
