Term

Fall line

The locally steepest downhill direction on a slope.

GLOSSARY · Turns & riding control

The fall line is the direction a ball would roll if released on the slope. Turns are described relative to it: riders turn toward the fall line, pass through it, and finish across it.

Context and distinction

The fall line follows the local shape of the slope, not the direction of the piste. Riding across it is a traverse.
