Term
Flexion
Bending a joint, such as the ankle, knee or hip, so the body segments close together.
GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics
Flexion lowers the body and lets the legs act as suspension. Riders flex to absorb bumps and landings, to load the board before a pop, and in some techniques to make the edge change while staying low.
Context and distinction
Flexion is the opposite of extension. A flexed stance is not the same as sitting back: flexing the ankles moves the knees forward and keeps the body centred.
