Term

Fore/aft

The direction along the board, from nose to tail.

GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics

Fore/aft movements shift weight toward the nose or the tail. They are used to steer, to start presses, to load the tail for an ollie and to stay centred on steeps or in powder.

Context and distinction

Fore/aft describes the direction; Fore/aft Balance is the skill of controlling it. Toward the nose is not always forward: when riding switch, the direction of travel is toward the tail.
