Term
Hip
A jump feature with takeoff and landing oriented at an angle to one another.
GLOSSARY · Terrain, snow & environment
On a hip jump the rider takes off in one direction and lands on a slope angled to the side, so the air crosses a corner. Hips are found in parks and natural terrain and are ridden frontside or backside.
Context and distinction
A hip changes direction in the air; a straight jump lands in line with the takeoff. A transfer moves between separate features.
