Method
Grounded / Airborne Feature Outcome Log
An analysis tool recording feature shape, route, board contact over the crest, deliberate leg action, take-off method if airborne, and exit.
HOW TO DO IT
Grounded / Airborne Feature Outcome Log
A grounded/airborne outcome log distinguishes terrain following from deliberate takeoff. Similar leg actions can serve different goals depending on timing and contact.
Preparation and setting
A clearly stated feature task and an observer.
How to understand / apply it
- Record geometry and chosen route.
- State whether contact should remain grounded.
- Observe leg action around the crest.
- If airborne, identify coast, pop or ollie only when supported by observation.
- Record landing or continuous-contact exit.
- Compare outcome with intention.
How to learn / practise
Compare an established grounded roller task with a separate familiar takeoff task. Keep feature and conditions comparable.
Errors and corrections
Calling every flexion movement absorption ignores the task. Calling every separation a successful jump hides unintended launch.
Observable checks
Task, action and observed contact outcome are separately documented.

editorial review notes
Compares the grounded roller study with deliberate take-off tasks; neither outcome is inherently better — the task defines success.
