HOW TO DO IT

Half Cab — Ground

A switch frontside 180 returning to the rider's main stance. A popped Half Cab has a clear departure and landing; a surface revert is a preparation movement rather than the same execution.

Preparation and setting

Comfortable switch travel, controlled return to main stance and Frontside 180.

Execution / application sequence

  1. Enter switch with speed already controlled.
  2. Flex without letting the approach curl into an uncontrolled turn.
  3. Initiate a modest frontside shoulder guide and an upward ollie.
  4. Bring the board through a half-turn while remaining over its landing path.
  5. Align the board with the outgoing travel direction.
  6. Absorb the landing and stop residual rotation before riding away in main stance.

Learning and practice

Rehearse the stance change on snow, then separate a small pop from that rotation. Compare several small attempts for identical take-off and ride-away rather than adding height immediately.

Errors and corrections

Sliding through the whole turn: reduce rotational effort and isolate an upward pop. Continuing to spin after contact: land aligned and soften the arms. Drifting across the practice lane: shorten the approach and reset.

Observable checks

Switch entry, distinct pop, main-stance exit and a controlled line are visible. Half Cab here means SWFS180, not every switch half-turn.

Half-Cab — Terminology Review

Half-Cab — Terminology Review

Preparation and setting

This is an attributed description, partial lesson or analysis page. Related component practice does not validate an advanced target.

Known phases / unresolved execution

  1. Identify the exact source convention, feature and approach stance.
  2. Separate board support, hand support, axis and landing outcome.
  3. Use the preserved attributed material below for known facts.
  4. Keep unknown timing, feature geometry and recovery instructions visibly incomplete.
  5. Obtain a reviewed source-specific pathway before treating this as a reproduction lesson.

Learning and practice

Use the source-specific phases where supplied. For a missing execution pathway, preparation and recognition are related learning only; a complete named tutorial is still required.

Errors, limits and corrections

Do not infer support hand, spin amount or safe feature from the name. Historical definitions and provider titles are not complete coaching instructions.

Observable checks

Known facts, source convention and unresolved execution are separately recorded.

Definition conflicts

  • FIS dictionary (S2) section 1: Half-Cab is a fakie 180 returning fakie.
  • FIS dictionary (S2) section 2: Half-Cab is restricted to a straight-jump fakie-to-forward 180 and excludes halfpipe use.

01

teaching summary — coaching review required

The lesson distinguishes a sliding stance change from a popped rotation and emphasizes a relatively straight ollie, shoulder guidance and a controlled ride-away without residual rotation.

02

editorial review notes

Within these sources, Half Cab means Switch Frontside 180.

Additional editorial review notes

Batch 07 terminology note: the FIS dictionary is internally inconsistent about Half-Cab. This does not overwrite the Batch 03 flatground lesson, and no halfpipe tutorial is published.
