Method

Hip Geometry Observation Card

Recording approach direction, lip orientation, landing direction and pitch, intended contact area and exit for a hip.

HOW TO DO IT

Hip Geometry Observation Card

Hip geometry observation records the actual departure, landing and route before interpreting a trick. Left/right appearance alone cannot establish frontside/backside for every stance.

Preparation and setting

Access to feature data or a clear observation; known rider stance.

How to understand / apply it

  1. Record main stance and travel stance.
  2. Describe approach and lip orientation.
  3. Describe landing direction and pitch.
  4. Identify intended contact area and exit.
  5. Record unknown angles without guessing.
  6. Link the performed movement separately.

How to learn / practise

Compare two records using the same field definitions. Check whether geometric and trick-direction labels were mixed.

Errors and corrections

Inferring rotation from a photo's left/right layout can reverse meaning. Recording only the lip omits the contact task.

Observable checks

The record supports an unambiguous feature and stance description.

editorial review notes

Measure an angle only when source or feature data establishes it; keep regular/goofy and forward/switch explicit rather than deriving frontside/backside from left/right.
