Term
Kick turn
A touring direction change using a deliberate stepped turn of the equipment.
GLOSSARY · Mountain literacy & safety vocabulary
When the skin track zig-zags up a steep slope, splitboarders change direction with a kick turn: stepping one ski around to face the new direction, then bringing the other one round. It saves energy compared with walking straight up.
Context and distinction
A kick turn is a touring move on the way up, not a riding turn on the way down.
