Term

Longitudinal flex

Bending along the length of the board.

GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics

Longitudinal flex is how easily the board bends from nose to tail. Softer boards bend easily for presses and buttering; stiffer boards hold an edge at speed and give more pop and stability.

Context and distinction

Longitudinal flex is different from torsional flex, which is the board twisting along its length. A board can be soft in one and stiff in the other.
