Drill

Mobile Range Check

Build an available stance instead of a rigid or end-range posture.

HOW TO DO IT

Mobile Range Check

Build an available stance instead of a rigid or end-range posture.

Preparation and setting

Level snow, both feet secured and board stationary; comfortable boot fit.

Exercise sequence

  1. Begin in a supported middle stance.
  2. Become a little taller without locking knees.
  3. Become a little lower using ankles, knees and hips together.
  4. Return to the middle and look along an imagined route.
  5. Check that further movement remains available in both directions.

Transfer

Repeat the range check at the finish of a glide or sideslip; a posture that works only stationary needs further practice.

Errors addressed

Locked knees; Deep immobile crouch; Excessive hip fold.

Success check

Rider can move taller/lower smoothly without hands on knees, pain or an arm pull.

Simplify when needed

Reduce range or use suitable stationary support; do not force a painful position.
