Moderate Height Change in a Traverse

Explore vertical range without confusing low posture with unloading.

HOW TO DO IT

Moderate Height Change in a Traverse

Explore vertical range without confusing low posture with unloading.

Preparation and setting

Slow controlled traverse on suitable smooth gentle snow; reliable same-edge stop.

Exercise sequence

  1. Traverse in a mobile stance.
  2. Lower modestly with shared joint action and retained fore/aft support.
  3. Become modestly taller without a sharp push.
  4. Stop before the corridor boundary.
  5. Compare with a normal traverse; reduce range if line or edge control deteriorates.

Transfer

Use moderate available range in later transitions; terrain absorption requires its own controlled approach/exit.

Errors addressed

Deep trapped squat; Unintended hop; Flexion creates tailward movement.

Success check

Height changes occur without airborne motion, line loss or end-range fatigue.

Simplify when needed

Return to stationary D02 and remove sliding vertical actions until support is reliable.
