Term
Off-piste
Terrain outside prepared pistes; access and boundary meanings depend on the resort and jurisdiction.
GLOSSARY · Terrain, snow & environment
Off-piste means away from groomed, marked runs. It may still be within a resort's boundary or open terrain, but snow is not prepared and avalanche risk may not be controlled.
Context and distinction
Off-piste is not automatically backcountry. Local laws and resort policies define what is open, patrolled or closed.
