Drill

Short Diagonal and Same-Edge Stop

Create controlled across-slope travel without committing to a full-width crossing.

HOW TO DO IT

Short Diagonal and Same-Edge Stop

Create controlled across-slope travel without committing to a full-width crossing.

Preparation and setting

Gentle quiet corridor, selected edge controlled, destination before trail boundary.

Exercise sequence

  1. Inspect diagonal and finish.
  2. Release enough for movement.
  3. Use a modest leading-end action for the chosen diagonal.
  4. Maintain working-edge support and both-leg availability.
  5. Stop in the zone.
  6. Repeat opposite direction with newly named leading foot if appropriate.

Transfer

Use as the building block for D16 and D17.

Errors addressed

No diagonal develops; Nose dives downhill; Boundary overshoot; Wrong leading foot on reversal.

Success check

A short predictable diagonal ends before the corridor limit without an arm impulse.

Simplify when needed

Return to short sideslip or shrink directional action; do not increase slope to force response.
