Small-Drop Teaching Pathway
GLOSSARY
This pathway teaches riding off small drops by linking approach, take-off, body position in the air, landing and runout on a real, chosen feature.
Context and distinction
It is a pathway on an actual feature, not a generic list of steps.

Small-Drop Snowboard Teaching Pathway
A small-drop pathway must connect approach, departure, airborne organisation, contact and runout on an actual selected feature. Historical snowboard teaching now supports a draft sequence, not a universal safe height.
Preparation and setting
Controlled straight airs and landing recovery; an inspected coach-selected small drop with clear contact and runout.
How to understand / apply it
- Establish the appropriate approach without an abrupt last-second check.
- At departure, use the selected controlled leg action to avoid an unintended nose dive.
- Bring the board beneath the body in flight.
- Prepare support before contact.
- Flex to absorb without collapsing.
- Recover and ride away.
How to learn / practise
Rehearse takeoff and landing on a familiar suitable low feature. The new primary written source is historical; its numeric heights and snow-testing shortcuts are not adopted as learner thresholds.
Errors and corrections
A rearward panic lean, rigid landing or unknown runout needs task regression. Do not use size alone to choose the drop.
Observable checks
The whole sequence is controlled on the selected feature; modern coaching review remains pending.
Review note
Historical written-source adaptation; contemporary coaching review pending. No numeric height threshold adopted.
