Term
Spine
Back-to-back quarterpipes (WSF).
HOW TO DO IT
Step-Up and Spine: Feature Distinctions
Step-up describes a landing higher than departure; spine describes back-to-back quarterpipe geometry. Height and directional change are different attributes and require separate feature descriptions.
Preparation and setting
Feature observation; a specific coached task before any execution.
How to understand / apply it
- Identify takeoff and landing elevations.
- Record orientation and structure separately.
- Name step-up or spine only when the description fits.
- Inspect intended contact and exit.
- Select a relevant technique pathway rather than infer one from the name.
How to learn / practise
Practise describing features without performing them. Compare a height change with a differently angled landing.
Errors and corrections
Using step-up as a synonym for hip confuses geometry. A glossary definition is not sufficient takeoff-speed instruction.
Observable checks
Both terms are explained with explicit geometry and no invented generic jump recipe.
