Drill

Stopped Reversals to Flowing Falling Leaf

Teach reversible diagonal control before linking faster pendulum movements.

HOW TO DO IT

Stopped Reversals to Flowing Falling Leaf

Teach reversible diagonal control before linking faster pendulum movements.

Preparation and setting

Short diagonals and stops established on selected edge; gentle clear corridor.

Exercise sequence

  1. Make one short diagonal and stop.
  2. Recenter and name new leading foot.
  3. Make the opposite short diagonal on the same edge and stop.
  4. Repeat until both starts are deliberate.
  5. Replace complete stop with controlled slow passage through broadside only when reliable.
  6. End with planned stop.

Transfer

Move to garlands for entry/shaping; falling leaf alone does not teach the opposite-edge transition.

Errors addressed

Abrupt spin during reversal; Continued first-direction action; One-edge descent mistaken for turns.

Success check

Both directions reverse predictably without an edge change or cumulative speed increase.

Simplify when needed

Keep full stops between diagonals or repair weak direction with D15.
