GLOSSARY · Freestyle & trick grammar

The board end carries the supporting role. In source-specific switch wording, identify whether tail refers to the physical end or to the end trailing in that demonstration.

Context and distinction

A lifted nose alone is not enough to describe the quality or mechanics of a loaded press.

HOW TO DO IT

Tail Press — Snow

Lengthwise tail support raises the nose. The hips move over the support while the torso remains organized; sitting far behind the board is not the objective.

Preparation and setting

Stationary balance, gentle glide and reliable stopping.

Execution / application sequence

  1. Begin in centred two-foot balance.
  2. Shift the hips toward tail support.
  3. Let board flex and unloading raise the nose modestly.
  4. Hold without locking the supporting leg.
  5. Recentre and lower the nose.
  6. Continue controlled travel.

Learning and practice

Stationary short holds precede moving presses. Alternate press and neutral travel to make the return repeatable.

Errors and corrections

Nose slaps down: reduce hold length. Torso leans without useful support: move hips rather than shoulders. Uncontrolled wheelie: reduce displacement.

Observable checks

Nose clearance is deliberate and the rider can exit before losing balance.

Learn to shift balance towards the tail so the board bends and the nose lifts. Begin with position awareness before adding travel or rotation.
