Takeoff is the moment the board leaves the lip of a jump, feature or flat snow. The rider's pop, edge and timing at takeoff largely decide height, rotation and line.
Context and distinction
Takeoff follows the approach. Popping (active) and coasting (letting the ramp do the work) are two different takeoff styles.
