Term
Turn initiation
The phase in which a new turn begins.
GLOSSARY · Turns & riding control
Initiation is the start of a turn: the rider releases the old edge, moves onto the new one and starts steering the board toward the fall line. A clean initiation makes the rest of the turn easier.
Context and distinction
Initiation, shaping and completion together describe a whole turn. Different techniques (rotation, pressure, edging) can initiate the same turn.
