Term

Unweighting

A reduction in board loading during a movement; it does not necessarily mean becoming airborne.

GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics

Unweighting is a short drop in how much the board presses into the snow, making it easier to redirect or change edges. It can be done by extending, by flexing quickly, or by using the terrain.

Context and distinction

Unweighting does not have to mean leaving the snow. Up-unweighting and down-unweighting are two ways to produce it.
