Board Tilt

The board’s roll across its width relative to the supporting surface.

GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics

Tilting changes edge angle. Body inclination and angulation are ways to influence it.

Context and distinction

Tilt describes the board’s overall orientation; torsional twist describes differences along its length.

HOW TO DO IT

Board Tilt

Tilt is the board's edge angle relative to the local surface. Inclination and joint angulation can both contribute; a lower torso does not automatically mean more useful edge angle.

Preparation and setting

Static toe/heel balance and deliberate release.

Execution / practice sequence

  1. Find a small supported toe-side angle.
  2. Increase it gradually through coordinated joint movements.
  3. Return to a flatter board before exploring heel-side tilt.
  4. Repeat during a shallow traverse.
  5. Compare the resulting track and ability to release.

How to learn / practise

Use several modest angles rather than seeking a maximum. Repeat with a similar line so snow response is comparable.

Errors and corrections

Edge increase accompanied by uncontrolled inward falling: reduce inclination. Apparent tilt without grip: check surface, pressure and equipment rather than adding angle blindly.

Observable checks

The board angle changes intentionally and the rider can both engage and release it.
