Drill

Compare Transition Strategies

Comparing an extension-based task with a flexed-transition task on familiar mellow terrain.

HOW TO DO IT

Attributed Transition Observation

Separate observable board/body paths from disputed transition vocabulary.

Preparation and setting

Established grounded strategies only for sliding comparison; otherwise use stationary explanation/observer notes.

Exercise sequence

  1. Name chosen source model.
  2. Observe ordinary pair and describe body path, board path, leg length and contact.
  3. Compare established CD16 pair.
  4. Compare established CD17 pair separately.
  5. Assess path, support, speed and exit.
  6. Assign only an attributed label, preserving differences and unresolved equivalences.

Transfer

Use to enrich existing cross-over/under/through term cards without duplicating movement entities.

Errors addressed

Tall/low pose treated as definition; Global same_as aliases; Reference text mistaken for advanced tutorial.

Success check

Record contains observable events plus the source-specific naming rather than an unqualified label.

Simplify when needed

Study descriptions without sliding if strategies are not established; do not add hand contact or steep demand.

Editorial origin

SBSweet editorial exercise, not an association-approved drill.

HOW TO DO IT

Transition Strategy Contrast

Compare observable connection actions without declaring all technique names equivalent.

Preparation and setting

Familiar moderate pair; ordinary extension/retraction options already learned. No contact, hopping or intentional rebound launch.

Exercise sequence

  1. Choose a baseline connection and record leg action, body path, board path and exit.
  2. Repeat the same lane using a small selected push-pull coordination pattern.
  3. Describe the visible differences without inferring exact pressure from body height.
  4. If either attempt fails, reduce range and isolate the first changed phase.
  5. Repeat both starting orders and record whether the selected action helps the actual objective.

Transfer

Use the successful action in ED07 or ECRC-17’s coordination exploration. Naming literacy does not replace movement verification.

Errors addressed

Low pose equated with unloading; Fixed rhythm imposed on every arc; Source terms auto-merged.

Observable success

Learner can describe actions and outcomes separately and preserve attributed names.

Regression

Compare ordinary non-contact turns only, with a coach describing observable movement before adding style terminology.

Editorial origin

SBSweet editorial exercise; not a verbatim source-school lesson.

editorial review notes

Purpose: observe leg timing, edge change and the resulting track. An instructor should select terrain and difficulty; no laydown, airborne edge change or prescribed maximum inclination is required.
