GLOSSARY · Turns & riding control

In the falling-leaf exercise the rider stays on one edge and drifts diagonally across the slope in one direction, then the other, like a leaf falling from a tree. It teaches steering and speed control before the rider learns to change edges.

Context and distinction

Falling leaf travels diagonally on one edge; sideslip moves straight down on one edge. Neither links turns on alternating edges.
