Term

Sideslip

Controlled sideways sliding with the board substantially across the fall line.

GLOSSARY · Turns & riding control

The rider stands across the slope on the uphill edge and lets the board slide straight down by easing the edge angle, stopping again by tilting it more. It is one of the first control skills taught and a safe way to descend terrain that is too steep to turn on.

Context and distinction

Sideslip goes straight down the fall line; falling leaf adds diagonal travel to each side. Both stay on one edge.
