Term

Flip

An aerial rotation involving a somersault-like movement; specify axis and direction.

GLOSSARY · Freestyle & trick grammar

A flip rotates the rider head over heels, like a front or back somersault, around a mainly horizontal axis. Flips are named by direction and axis, such as backflip, frontflip or underflip.

Context and distinction

Every flip is inverted, but not every inverted trick is a flip: corks and handplants can also put the rider upside down.
