Term

Leading foot

The foot ahead in the current direction of travel; it changes when travel reverses.

GLOSSARY · Orientation & naming

The leading foot is whichever foot is ahead in the direction the board is currently travelling. Riding forward it is the front foot; riding switch it is the rider's usual rear foot. Coaching cues such as "steer with the leading foot" use this meaning.

Context and distinction

Leading foot changes with travel direction; front foot names the binding position in the rider's natural stance. Mixing them up reverses instructions when riding switch.
