Drill
Oblique ridge crossing
HOW TO DO IT
Oblique ridge crossing
make sequential contact visible.
Preparation and setting
Begin after a controlled uneven traverse. A broad low ridge crossed at an oblique angle makes the sequence easier to observe than a chaotic mogul field. The rider needs pain-free movement within the chosen stance. Off-snow rehearsal can introduce the idea, but cannot reproduce the forces or prove on-snow competence.
Exercise task
- use one low rounded ridge and a fixed oblique traverse. The observer watches leading and trailing knee movement separately on successive passes. The rider reports whether one impact or two was felt.
Observe and diagnose
Observation: timing should correspond to the board's actual passage, not a rehearsed count.
Transfer and success check
permit unequal leg lengths in irregular bumps without deliberately rocking the torso. This drill tests rigid simultaneous action and exaggerated weight shuttling. A side view can help, but a single image cannot establish pressure distribution.
Regression
less prominent ridge and less speed.
Progression
same ridge within one broad turn.
