Drill

Regular–Switch Comparison

Repeating a simple carved task in both stances.

HOW TO DO IT

Switch Rebuild from Short Diagonals

Apply edge logic with a new leading foot instead of borrowing untested forward confidence.

Preparation and setting

Forward control and both-edge stops established; very easy clear practice terrain; suitable switch equipment behaviour.

Exercise sequence

  1. Name new leading foot and view route.
  2. Make short reverse diagonal on familiar edge and stop.
  3. Repeat other edge.
  4. Add suitable short glide with known stop.
  5. Rebuild shallow garlands, then individual turns.
  6. Link only a short pair after both finishes work.

Transfer

Foundation for later switch all-mountain and freestyle pages, not an immediate trick prerequisite certificate.

Errors addressed

Usual front foot keeps steering; New rearward retreat; Poor switch visibility; Premature linked turns.

Success check

Each stage stops predictably before the next is attempted; switch foot/edge language stays correct.

Simplify when needed

Return to orientation or isolated reverse diagonals; keep terrain easier than challenging forward terrain.

Editorial origin

SBSweet editorial exercise; not claimed as an official association drill.

HOW TO DO IT

Switch Rebuild and Repeated Task Check

Establish switch-specific evidence and a learning record instead of borrowing forward confidence.

Preparation and setting

Controlled switch skidded turns/stops and forward clean arcs; very easy suitable lane.

Exercise sequence

  1. Name new leading foot and view.
  2. Confirm switch traverse/stop on each edge.
  3. Rebuild modest clean traverses.
  4. Make separate short switch J-carves with known exit.
  5. Link only after both isolated tasks work.
  6. Repeat comparable task and record conditions, observation, one correction, drill and retest.
  7. Change only one demand next.

Transfer

Transfer useful component to ordinary switch riding before tricks or new dynamic strategy.

Errors addressed

Usual front foot still initiates; New trailing-end retreat; Poor view; One success treated as mastery.

Success check

Both edges and exit are deliberate; assessed clean segments and conditions are recorded honestly.

Simplify when needed

Return to switch skidded control or shorter isolated task if view, support or stop deteriorates.

Editorial origin

SBSweet editorial exercise, not an association-approved drill.

editorial review notes

Purpose: compare edge engagement and direction control. An instructor should select terrain and difficulty; no laydown, airborne edge change or prescribed maximum inclination is required.
