Drill

Reserve-range pass

identify whether the rider runs out of flexion or extension.

HOW TO DO IT

Reserve-range pass

identify whether the rider runs out of flexion or extension.

Preparation and setting

one rounded rise on an easy traverse and an established stop.

Exercise task

  1. make a baseline pass; on the next pass begin slightly taller but still athletic, keeping line and pace comparable. Let the rise shorten the legs, then recover the middle stance on the runout.

Observe and diagnose

Observe: when the legs reach their smallest distance, whether the board skips, and whether the rider can still stop.

Transfer and success check

use the same reserve in one rounded turn. Success means adaptable contact and an unchanged exit, not a particular knee angle. This tests rigid or prematurely compressed riding; it does not prove that more range is always the answer.

Regression

a smaller rise.

Progression

two separated rises.
