Term

Retraction

Drawing the legs or board toward the body during a movement.

GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics

The rider actively pulls the knees and board up toward the body. It is used to absorb a bump quickly, to lift the board for an ollie or a jump, or to unweight it for a fast edge change.

Context and distinction

Retraction is active; absorption lets the terrain push the legs up. Some teaching systems use retraction and down-unweighting for overlapping movements, so check the method's own description.
