Drill
Route-choice audit
HOW TO DO IT
Route-choice audit
connect terrain reading to movement demand.
Preparation and setting
The rider should already manage a short around-the-bump sequence and a grounded low crest. Inspect a small section from a safe vantage. Do not stop below a blind crest to study the next move. If the next route cannot be seen, choose a visible alternative rather than treating the unseen portion as an exercise.
Exercise task
- name route A and route B, then give one expected benefit and one constraint for each. Ride only A initially. Record whether its predicted turning space existed.
Observe and diagnose
Corrective use: challenges automatic trough following or avoidance of every top.
Transfer and success check
use the same decision process on mixed snow. Success includes declining an unsuitable alternative; riding both is not mandatory.
Regression
compare two routes on gentle undulations.
Progression
alter the plan when a new rut or traffic appears.
