Term

Skidded turn

A turn containing deliberate sideways board displacement.

GLOSSARY · Turns & riding control

In a skidded turn the board slides sideways for part of the arc, scrubbing speed. It is easier to control than a carve and is the main way most riders manage speed on steeper or busy slopes.

Context and distinction

Skidded describes the board's track, not poor technique. Carved turns leave a thin line; skidded turns leave a wider, scraped track.
