Term
Up-unweighting
Reducing the load on the board by extending upward, so pressure drops at the top of the movement and the edge change becomes easier.
GLOSSARY · Movement & mechanics
The rider stands up through the transition between turns; as the body rises, the board is briefly lighter and can be rolled onto the new edge. It is a common first technique for linking turns on groomed slopes.
Context and distinction
Up-unweighting extends to lighten the board; down-unweighting flexes to do the same. Neither is better in general — each suits different terrain and speed.
